With over 20 years of experience as a community theater practitioner, Gian Carlo de Jesus has helped develop more than ten community-based theater organizations across the Philippines. He developed his own theater theory and system called the "Bahay-Bahayan System and Philosophy," a play-based theater method applied to immersive and interactive theater productions, education, organizational development, and transformative tourism.

In 2016, Gian Carlo published a peer-reviewed article as the lead author on the effectiveness of "Bahay-Bahayan" in classroom teaching compared to traditional methods. He also created a tourism site called "Tonneru Soro-soro," a community-based interactive tour on World War II historical accounts, offering an immersive theater experience of the events in Batangas City in 1945.In 2015, Gian Carlo adapted Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Award-winning play "Our Town" to the local history and culture of his hometown, Los Baños, Laguna, with the adaptation titled "Dito Sa Atin." Additionally, he founded BalaiWari Immersive and Gamified Experiences, a company based on the principles of the "Bahay-Bahayan System and Philosophy."

This company, registered in 2017, offers consulting and services in tourism, training, and education, producing theater productions, events management, gamified training design, and teacher training. In 2017, Gian Carlo created "Patentero," a gamified role-playing module on Intellectual Property Rights for the Center for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

In 2018, Gian Carlo adapted another of Wilder's works, "The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden," into a sequel called "Dito Sa Atin 2," which was modified to address mental health issues. Currently, he is working on "Katipuneros RPG," the first transmedia-immersive theater on the Philippine Revolution of 1896, available online and in live events until 2020, on multiple platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, with live events touring around the country. He also facilitates the "BalaiWari Theatre for Teachers" program, which empowers school teachers to become advocates and practitioners of play-based, interactive, and gamified learning environments.
